So this IP.Board 3 Thing...

Hello everyone!

I've just got some information that has to do with my mods come IPB 3 time.

Currently, I plan to update the following mods, provided their functionality is not in IP.Board 3 by default:

Event Logger

EZ Post Contests

Images In Topic

PM Search

Posts Per Day

Signature of the Week v2

Users Viewing Topic

I have decided to End of Life several of my modifications, and these include:

Disable Post Count Increase By Topic

Group Member Has Posted Here

Limit Multiple Choice Votes

My Videos

I will continue to provide support and bugfix updates on these mods until December 31, 2008. After that, they will not be supported at all. Until then, no new features will be added to these mods. They will remain available for download, but again, will not be supported by me after December 31, 2008.

Additionally, [BoT] mods that I continue to support as well as all new releases made for IP.Board 3 will be under the new prefix of (BB3), BB standing for Bryan Burr. The prefix is being changed because apparently people misunderstood [BoT] and thought it meant "bot", as in some sort of automated thing. Additionally, adding the 3 in there will allow for major version specification.

As you may have noticed, there has been so far no mention of my File Editor - this is because I do not currently know what I am going to do with it. If file edits are still necessary in IP.Board 3, then I will upgrade it and continue to support it, however, if they are indeed a thing of the past, then it too will go into the End of Life pile. If skin edits are still needed but file edits are no longer needed, I may release a Skin Editor mod and End of Life the File Editor. The Skin Editor would of course use a lot of code from the File Editor, but would serve a different purpose.

At present, I have plans to incorporate template bit editing into the File Editor, but at this time haven't started on that yet and I'm pretty busy so it may be a bit in the future when that is added.

If you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to leave a comment.

View the Full Post and Comment

Welcome Back to Trialga!

Hello everyone!

As some of you may have noticed, I've had the boards offline for a bit as I changed around some things - more like a lot of things. I have now restructured the forums to have a greater focus on IP.Board as well as general programming discussions.

I have installed IP.Downloads to allow users to download my free modifications, and to allow users to upload their own modifications and skins as well. Additionally, I will continue to use Calypso's Client Area system to facilitate downloads of my paid mods.

I'll now start off with the changes:

Staff Groups: We now have 3 distinct moderator-level staff groups: Moderators, Programmers, and Skinners. These groups have global moderator privileges with an emphasis on particular sections of the forum.

Categories: New categories include:

Invision Power Board Support: Category with all forums for IP.Board support, including general, mod, and skin support.

Paid Mod Information: Category with the Presale Questions forum as well as Customer Support forum.

VIP Exclusive Area: Chat and support only for VIP members!

Programming: Talk about anything related to programming.

VIP Member Group: This group is now comprised of members who have donated $10 or more to Trialga, and they will receive special areas for support and chatting.

Staff Members: We will be having new staff come in as we transition into this different direction.

We hope that this change will be welcomed, and we hope that our members will enjoy these new services and forums.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Hey everyone!

So, I just got done playing the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo (twice ), and must say, I'm loving it. As I said in a previous post, the game comes out mid-September (the 16th in the US), and I cannot wait for it now that I've had a chance to actually play it.

Basically, the melding of the force powers and lightsaber use is amazing. There's plenty of different combos, from stabbing the person with your lightsaber and then immediately force pushing them away, to striking them down with a blade that's got force lightning surrounding it. Force grabbing stuff and then throwing it around is fun, as well as doing the same with people. I did manage to get one guy to grab hold of another person on the floor, and then threw them off a very high ledge.

Just the way that it all works makes it fun. Seriously, the force powers are just awesome and you get some cool ones even in the demo, so I can't imagine what they've got in store for the actual game.

Basically, come September 16th, I intend to make sure that I get this game and play it as soon as possible. It's tons of fun, and should be even better with the story and all that mixed in.

Anybody else planning on getting it?

View the Full Post and Comment

SVN: Set up!

Hello everyone! Another blog entry to let you know more about the Dev Center.

Master_Odin and I are presently working on it, and we have now set up SVN on Trialga in order to facilitate versioning of the files.

Additionally, I've made a script that runs via CRON job at midnight each night that will export the current files from SVN and create a Zip file for the build, then places it in a folder with the rest of them. These are our nightly builds, and they're available for download here: http://trialga.net/builds if anyone's interested in seeing what we're working on for the next release etc.

Currently I'm working on the dev docs and Master_Odin's working on automation scripts, so I'll let you know more about those in the future. For now we don't really have a timetable for the release of v1.4.0, but we are working on it steadily so be sure to keep an eye out for more blog posts!

View the Full Post and Comment

Installer Import

Hello again everyone!

Bryan here with some information about the newest feature, just released in version 1.2.0 of the Invisionize Developer Center, Installer Import.

This feature allows you to import existing XML installer files into the system, to save you the time that would be needed to enter in all that data manually. We hope that this is another feature that allows developers to spend more time on programming quality mods and less time on dealing with all of the deploying issues.

Here is a screenshot of the import form:

You can import either a file directly or its contents, and let the system take care of entering in the data.

We're still working on the Automation feature as well as others for the next version, so I will keep you updated on all of that.

View the Full Post and Comment

Debugging and Other Toggles

Hello everyone!

Bryan here with some information about the next thing we've got coming in the Invisionize Developer Center.

We'd like to introduce a "toggle" system, that will allow you to turn on and off certain debug modes, including IN_DEV, as well as change the error reporting level. It uses regular expressions to find the constant definitions and change them, because the number of spaces, etc. could vary and that must be accounted for.

Here's a screenshot for those interested:

It's pretty self-explanatory and there's not much to it, but it's just another tool that we hope will be helpful to developers.

We've finished this feature, and have it set for being released with version 1.1.0, but we'd like to put in another thing or two before 1.1 so I'll keep you updated on what's to come as we work on it.

View the Full Post and Comment

A Loss to Many

As you can clearly see in this topic, the loss of Mrs. Rowland is a sad thing for many people. As a teacher, she went above and beyond the call of duty.

She was there when you needed help with a program, or just wanted to do more than the assignment required. She made sure that everyone understood the material, and ensured that the work got done, but she also made sure her students were enjoying her class. She touched many of us, teaching the freshman computer science class, web design, and algebra II, while also helping Mr. Slattery with a lot of the work that goes into the Computer Science program.

Together they were quite the team, and made the CS program run smoothly. She was instrumental in preparations for the CS Banquet, and she showed a lot of enthusiasm about her classes.

This past year, she taught C++ to the freshmen as a result of a curriculum change, and with that, brought a new, innovative way for the freshmen to learn programming as well as the logic that is involved with it. Her inclusion of the robots in the curriculum was a fresh idea, and she even gave a lecture about it during computer club which was met with a lot of enthusiasm from our members.

For her web design class, she began teaching some PHP to her students, adding a bit of extra knowledge to help jump-start them in programming interactive web applications.

Mrs. Rowland was a great teacher who cared a lot about her students, and we've seen also that her students care a lot about her. We hope that her family will be a bit happier knowing that she is loved and will be missed dearly.

View the Full Post and Comment

Invisionize Developer Center

Hello everyone!

Just wanted to let you all know that we have released the Invisionize Developer Center at Invisionize!

This is a mod that we hope will make mod developers' lives a bit easier when creating modifications. It's currently relatively bare, and we plan to expand it.

I'll be posting more entries about it later on as we continue to work on it.

Currently, you can create a project, which will act as the container for the mod. You can set up XML files for the UMI and the File Editor, and have the mod automatically pull settings, component, and template data. Additionally, you can tell it which files should be included in the project, such as components_* files, as well as documentation files. Finally, when you've done all that, you can go to the project's main page and generate its zip file, which you can then download and distribute.

Feel free to post feature suggestions and bug reports in the mod's support topic here: http://forums.invisionize.com/index.php?showtopic=137993

Any other comments about the mod can be posted as comments to this blog entry.

View the Full Post and Comment

Mrs. Rowland Has Passed Away

Note: Guest posting has now been disabled to prevent spam occurring in this forum. If you wish to post, please register an account.

Edit: The information regarding services for Mrs. Rowland is available at the end of this post.

As some of you may already know, Mrs. Rowland, a computer science teacher at Suncoast, passed away last night. This is very sad for many of us, especially those of us who had her as a teacher.

She was a very nice person who enjoyed teaching and cared a lot about her students. She taught the freshman CS class as well as web design and math classes, and had been at Suncoast for three years.

Please feel free to pay your respects here. Please don't be disrespectful, that will be most looked down on.

I will have information regarding funeral arrangements sometime today or otherwise soon, and I will post them here when available. It would be appreciated for Suncoast students to attend if possible, especially her students.

Thank you,
Bryan Burr

Updates:

QUOTE

Hi everyone,

As Bryan said, Mrs. Rowland passed away suddenly last night. She apparently had a blood formed clot in her lungs that she was unaware of. She was rushed to the hospital last night at about 7PM and passed away at approximately 10PM. Those are all the details that are currently available.

As you can imagine Mr. Rowland (who teaches at Don Estridge High Tech Middle School) is dealing with a lot today and has not yet finalized the arrangements for services, etc., but I will post them here as soon as I have them. Tentatively, we are expecting the services will be this Saturday at her church in Boynton Beach. I think it would be a great tribute to her for as many students as possible to attend the services as a tribute to her dedication to all of you.

As my friend and partner in the CS program her contributions to both the program and Suncoast will pay dividends for you and your fellow students for years to come and I hope you all remember her, her husband Brian, and her two young sons, Patrick and Phillip, in your thoughts and prayers as we deal with this loss.

Mr. Slattery

QUOTE

Hi again everyone,

I have just received the following information about services for Mrs. Rowland.

Services are scheduled for 11AM Saturday at St. Josephs Episcopal Church at 3300 South Seacrest Blvd in Boynton. Her husband has requested that school personnel and students wear school colors or shirts.

They are also setting up an education fund for her sons that people can donate to in lieu of flowers. I’ll get that info out as soon as they get the account set up.

I also wanted to let you all know that Mr. Rowland asked for the link to this forum. He found it very touching that students would do something like this and wanted to be able to read it and show it to Mrs. Rowland's boys. If any of you would like him to know who is actually posting. it might help him if you include your names in the post instead of just your nick.

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to post here. Your comments will help to ease some of the loss for Mrs. Rowland's family.

Mr. Slattery

Additional information with a link to Google Maps for directions to the church, posted at the Suncoast website and Edline, and linking to this topic: http://www.palmbeach.k12.fl.us/SuncoastHs/...f%20Teacher.pdf

I have also pinned this topic so that it will remain at the top of the forum.

Update:

QUOTE

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that we are setting up an account at Suncoast where you can make donations to the education fund for Mrs. Rowland's boys in lieu of flowers. We are doing this as a temporary measure until Mr. Rowland has the opportunity to get something more permanent set up with the bank. All of the funds donated to this account will be forwarded to the permanent account as soon as it is available. Contact me at slattej@palmbeach.k12.fl.us if you have any questions.

I also just wanted to let you know how touched I am by all of you that have made comments in this forum. I have been checking in here regularly, and reading what you all had to say has helped me to cope with this devastating loss as well. It just goes to show you that Suncoast CS and Suncoast in general truly is a family. I know Mrs. Rowland felt very strongly about the family atmosphere that we have all fostered in the CS program and she is probably looking down on this with a smile on her face seeing how everyone is pulling together in support of each other and her family through this trying time.

I want to thank all of you that have posted here, it has renewed my pride in being associated with all of you, and I hope you will continue posting your feelings and condolences. I would also like to thank Bryan for creating this forum where we can all express our sadness at this loss.

Mr. Slattery

Upcoming Games...

Hey everyone.

Just thought I'd share a little about the upcoming games I'm looking forward to.

First off, what looks to be an awesome Star Wars RPG, The Force Unleashed. Three incredible technologies come together to create an awesome experience, with new and powerful force powers at your hand. The game comes out in mid-September, and I've got it pre-ordered for Xbox 360. Can't wait!

Next off, the thrilling continuation of the saga all about an alternate reality. Yes, Command and Conquer: Red alert 3 is headed our way! With a greater emphasis on naval battling, as well as a new faction and tons of new units, RA3 looks like a lot of fun. Red alert 3 comes out in (Red) October, and I've got a pre-order for PC.

Finally, the long-awaited sequel to the epic 1998 RTS, Starcraft 2 is on its way, courtesy of Blizzard Entertainment. They've been releasing gameplay footage as well as unit descriptions at a steady pace, and the suspense is killing me. SC2 has no official release date as of now, but I can't wait for it! And of course, I've got it pre-ordered.

Anyway, those are the three major games I'm looking forward to at this point. What are you looking forward to? Leave a comment and let me know!

View the Full Post and Comment
